Piano Improv Following Three Surgeries (Oct. 10, 2022)
This is my first piano improvisation following my three recent surgeries earlier this year (2022): quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery on March 9 and two reconstructive chest surgeries on May 19 and on May 25.Here it is October 10, 2022, and I am still quite weak. I am still walking with a walker. My chest is still sore, swollen, and numb. I am expecting to be mostly healed in (at least) a year from my third surgery.
I stayed in a hospital and at a physical-rehabilitation facility for a total of 70 days (May 13 to July 21, 2022).
Actually, I did play an acoustic piano for a few minutes while at the facility as part of my physical rehabilitation, but the piano didn't sound all that good, and I was way too weak to play for that long or to have the presence of mind to play anything coherently due to constant pain. I just played a little improv on the piano in the facility's dining room with my occupational therapist nearby.
As always with all of my piano improv videos that I post on YouTube, I like to sit at my digital piano and play whatever is in my head at that time. I make it up as I go along.
My digital piano is at my mother's home about a mile from where my wife and I live. I was able to muster enough strength to visit my mom with my wife and to record this video.
