I have a somewhat complex method of tipping at restaurants: If service is good, I typically give 15%, but just on the food. I exclude the tax in the total and never tip on alcoholic beverages. If service is exceptionally good or if I am feeling particularly generous, I'll go as high as 20%, but that's rare. If the service is poor, then it's 10% down to 0%. If I somehow discover that the server is a Democrat, then I will tell the server that I will be giving the tip to a homeless person as a way to "distribute the wealth."
