I had two bullies when I attended school in West Islip, Long Island, New York, from grades 6 to 12. Several days before our high school graduation in 1979, on the same day, they both apologized to me. I forgave both of them. The high school authorities had set aside a whole school day just so the students could sign each other's yearbooks.
These two guys became my bullies when I entered the 6th grade at Bayview Elementary School in West Islip in 1972. My parents and I moved from nearby Babylon during the summer of 1972, so I was the new kid at the school. The same two bullies, well, bullied me throughout the school year.
At the end of the school year in 1973, we were given autograph books, similar to yearbooks, so that our classmates could write remembrances. The next school year, I would find myself in Beach Street Junior High School.
In my autograph book, one of my bullies wrote, "Sorry for all the times I beat the shit out of you." My other bully read what my first bully wrote, so he wrote, "Sorry for all the times I beat the LIVING shit out of you." I forgave both of them then, too, but I did find it somewhat humorous. Neither of them had ever beat me up.
