Home From The Hospital

March 12, 2024, at home

I am home from Delray Medical Center after being there just overnight this time. My wonderful wife drove me to the hospital around 2 p.m. yesterday, but because it's a trauma hospital, I was moved down the triage list due to emergencies.

This morning, I had X-rays done of my right ankle and my chest. Then, a radiology team installed a new midline/PICC line to replace my leaky line, which they tried to fix on February 28, 2024.

This morning's procedure took about an hour as the team attempted to fix the line twice, with intermittent pain, but to no avail. They installed a new line about an inch from my previous line in my upper right arm. My veins are very small, so these lines are difficult to install in me. The main radiologist told me to be careful. If the new line leaks, I need to go back and get another line put into my left arm.

I am in the midst of a six-week-long daily regimen of intravenous antibiotics (three bags every day: two morning; one evening) for a bone infection in my sore, swollen (right) ankle and an infection under the surrounding skin. I have about two weeks left to finish.

I have done this regimen at least ten times in recent years for bone and skin infections in my feet and legs due to lingering diabetic ulcers.
