March 11, 2024, Emergency Room, Delray Medical Center
My midline is leaking (backed up) again because it had to be placed in one of my small veins. I had it replaced in the same spot (upper right arm) on February 28, 2024, but that remedy served to be futile. The doctors had told me at that time to administer my six-week-long, three-times-daily intravenous antibiotics infusions more slowly for the infections in the bone and the under the skin of my right ankle. They thought that I was receiving some of the liquid antibiotics and expelling some of it.Their advice didn't help, so my wonderful wife, as per my request this afternoon, drove me to the hospital for evaluation and possibly to install another midline or maybe even a longer PICC line, which is what I have been using for my many infections in recent years. I discovered the difficulties because while doing the recent infusions, it was taking an excessive amount of time, and my shirts and pillows would be soaked with the liquid antibiotics while doing the infusions. This morning's disastrous two infusions convinced me that worse had gotten worst. I receive the third infusion in the evening. (All of my infusions are at home with the help of a home nurse and my wife.)UPDATE:March 11, 2023, Delray Medical Center
After waiting more than SEVEN HOURS in the main Emergency Room of Delray Medical Center and in an examination room there, my wife and I were just informed that I will be remaining at the hospital overnight. In the morning, a radiology team will either fix the midline in my upper right arm (probably not) or install a new midline or PICC line (probably). Actually, my malfunctioning line is a PICC line cut in half to the length of a midline. Why was it done like that? No clue.
My current midline is leaking. I was here on February 28, 2024, to have it fixed, but it is still not functioning properly because it is within a small vein. That's when the doctor told me that the vein was causing some of the liquid antibiotics to back up and flow out of my arm, so I needed to administer the infusions much slower. That was NOT the remedy. The line also has two ports, which can cause problems.
I am in the midst, but toward the end, of a six-week-long, daily regimen of intravenous antibiotics (three bags every day) for infections within my right ankle bone and under the surrounding skin.
Delray Medical Center is a trauma hospital, so I basically got bumped down the triage list. I have been placed at the top of the list for tomorrow morning's procedure.
