Today (March 8, 2025) being International Women's Day, I would like to take this opportunity to mention as an early reminder: Don't forget us guys on International Men's Day (annual event) on November 19, 2025. I mention this because many people don't know this observance exists.
I have been fascinated by man-woman relationships and interactions on a sociological level for almost my entire life. I think my interest became noticeable when, in the early 1980s at Villanova University, I took a sociology course titled Interpersonal Communications.I have been a Men's Rights Activist (MRA) since the early 1990s, when I was in my early 30s. Back then, I was even a dues-paying member of the National Organization for Men. I still fight the good fight for Men's Rights and Father's Rights, although these days, in a mostly mellow manner. (I am married, never divorced, without children).
To clarify: While I have been an MRA for decades, I also have been a member of the Men's Movement, also since the early 1990s, but in the traditional sense, not like the radical idiots we have now. Back in the 1990s, it was about "reclaiming the male spirit," which was the catchphrase back then. It was about men taking accountability for their actions, good and bad; working hard; and respecting men, women, children, animals, and especially themselves.
Unfortunately, over the years, the Men's Movement has turned somewhat toxic. It's unfortunate, but hopefully more men will return to the old-fashioned definition of being a man.
I dislike the terms "real man" and "real men." All men are real. These terms are only used to shame, demean, and discount ALL men. Maybe we can discover a term that isn't condescending to men. Be well.
