November 3, 2024, at home
I have been a registered Republican and a Men's Rights Activist for decades. More recently, I have become a staunch MAGA Republican (2015), and I have already voted for Donald Trump for president (2024).Unfortunately, I believe Kamala Harris will be the next president. The thought of it makes me sad and scared, so I have been watching YouTube videos of old news reports and reactions about two fairly recent events to comfort myself: 1. Trump defeating Hillary Clinton for president (2016); and 2. the overturning of Roe v. Wade (2022).
Here is one of my favorite short video clips about Roe from 2022. Having been a print and Internet journalist from September 1982 to April 2017, I would like to say that this British news report is the way news used to be and how it should be here in the United States. Although it is skewed to the left, it is relatively balanced in comparison to the United States media which skews their "news" far to the left.
However, the report structurally goes against the proper method that I learned in journalism school (master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri) in the late 1980s. I was taught to not paraphrase what someone said followed by what they actually said as a quote. That puts the focus on the writer instead of where it should be: on the person being interviewed. Doing that is a bad idea for print journalism, but for television journalism, it may be OK.
