NMH Question on FB

posted February 9, 2026

(This is "Bungalow" Bill Santos, Class of 1980.) I have a rather obscure question. Does anyone remember the famous/infamous, surprise water balloon raid on the girls of Hibbard Hall by us guys in nearby Wilson Hall one day during the Spring of 1980?

The raid was a strategic masterpiece. We all had our assigned duties. Many of my Wilson dormmates threw many water balloons while running around the outside of Hibbard. One teacher wearing a suit and tie got one square in the chest. A couple of guys locked the doors so that the girls could not easily run for cover inside of Hibbard. We even had three guy on the roof of our dorm with a long, large slingshot-type device, launching water balloons for overhead.

My assigned duty was to set up my stereo system with a microphone and a speaker placed in the open window of my second-floor dorm room. When all of us Wilsonite guys were at their designated areas, I turned up the volume quite high and started shouting, "Fury, Fury, Fury," over and over into the microphone as loud as I could. (I was told to shout "Fury," so I did.) That was the official signal for all of us guys to spring into action at the same time. I shouted "Fury" for about a minute, and then ran down the stairs to join in the fun. I just kind of ran around frantically, along with everyone else. While I didn't throw any water balloons, I certainly enjoyed seeing those Hibbard girls get soaked.

That was an absolute blast of fun, and, of course, we would never schedule a raid on the girls in nearby Moody. They were our "sisters," and, besides, they ate breakfast and dinner with us in our dining room.

I never asked why I was shouting "Fury." I still don't know, but I think it may have something to do with the 1975 album "Bongo Fury," by Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, and The Mothers of Invention.

Is this video from the 1950s, when women had attainable standards? A guy playing Bingo with his mom is nice, but it's a red flag for 99....
