December 17, 2023, at home
I don't really want much of anything materialistic this Christmas. All I want is a bag of Italian chestnuts for roasting; maybe some Italian cookies; to be with family; and, most of all, to regain my ability to walk without the support of my frame walker.
Two spinal surgeries this year (on September 2 and October 6, 2023) have left me weak and, at this moment, unable to even stand without the support of my walker or my wife (a saint). Thank God for my wife and my mother (also a saint), both of whom have been an immense help to me.
And, you know, I still have some residual weakness from last year's three surgeries (quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery in March 2022 and two chest surgeries in May 2022).
My physical-occupational therapist is guiding me with leg exercises, and my home nurse continues to rebandage the lingering wound in my back: a small hole that is part of a healed, almost 14-inch-long incision. Thank God for them, too.
I sure could use a Christmas miracle.
