I would sometimes check the Latino box because of my last name, but I am not Hispanic. I am Italian, Austrian, Swiss, and Portuguese. Checking the Latino box moves you to the head of the line in woke and DEI culture, which was quite strong when I was looking for jobs in the the late 1980s and all of the 1990 and even beyond that. Actually, Portuguese is technically Hispanic, although they don't speak Spanish there.
