My father and I both had model trains when we were kids. In the 1940s, my dad had the big ones. In the 1960s, I had what are called postage stamp trains, which are the very small ones. Also, I love riding trains. I grew up riding the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) starting in the 1960s. In the 1990s, I used to ride the LIRR from Babylon, Long Island, New York, to Pennsylvania Station in New York City (Manhattan) and back, and then take a subway train to and from work. I occasionally took an old-fashioned diesel train, but it was only allowed to stop at the Jamaica, Queens, New York, train station. I would then grab another train into Manhattan. Also, I loved taking the train in Austria, both solo and with my wife. On one solo trip, I took the train across almost the entire northern part of Austria. I met with 32 of my Austrian cousins on that vacation.
