WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU FOUND OUT ABOUT THE 9/11 ATTACKS?
I was sleeping when it happened.I was working as an editor in the sports department of the Boca Raton News, a daily morning newspaper in southeastern Florida, so my working hours were 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. After work, I would drive home, eat some food, relax, and then be in bed slightly before 4 a.m.
My mother, who lived nearby, called me on the phone slightly after 9 a.m. to tell me what happened, so I turned on the TV and watched the horror.
From 1991 to 1998, I worked as a journalist in New York City, in part directly across the street from the World Trade Center buildings.
In 1997, when I was a reporter/writer for Futures World News, a financial wire service broadcast via satellite to 93 countries, every weekday morning, I would take the PATH train from my home in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the bottom of one of the towers and walk across the street to my office.
I would occasionally walk across the street to interview commodities traders on the trading floor (on the second floor of one of the towers) instead of placing my usual call to them on the phone.
I moved to Florida in May 1998.
