Here is a selfie in celebration of St. Joseph's Day today. As per Italian tradition, I am wearing red and eating a St. Joseph's Day zeppola (plural: zeppole), inset photo. I also ate one on March 15, 2026, at an early celebration with my wife and my mom at my mom's nearby home. (I am half Italian.)
I am wearing my red MAGA hat and clutching my months-long companion: my red heart pillow. In March 2022, I had quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery. I was given this pillow after my surgery to clutch whenever I had to sneeze or cough to reduce pain and, I think, to stabilize my broken sternum/breastbone.
I am a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Delta, which is a national, Italian-heritage, social-service fraternity, at colleges and universities in mostly the northeastern section of the United States. I became a member in the early 1980s, when I was studying for my undergraduate degree at Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. I was elected as a member of the fraternity's local Executive Board, specifically as Recording Secretary.
