Song By Die Doofen

from husband Bill, June 2, 2026

In the mid-1990s, on one of my seven journeys from the United States, where I live, to Austria to visit my many Austrian cousins, I discovered this song. My cousin played it from a CD while I was at his home for dinner. He had his son burn me a copy. I have absolutely loved this song for decades. While I have studied the German language, I never bothered to translate this song into English.

Move to today (June 2, 2026). I was watching a YouTube video about favorite German songs from recent decades. This song was mentioned, so I decided to search for the music video. (I haven't listened to it in quite a while.) I found the video, which I have never seen until today. It has English subtitles. (They use the word "pong" in the translation instead of "stench.")

I now know what that song is about, and, I'll tell you, I am rather shocked. The song is (basically) about a man with poor hygiene who tells a woman that if she doesn't accept him (with his bad hygiene), he will wave her goodbye because there is a prostitute by a lamp post on the street where he lives. He mentioned that even though he stinks, his character is good.

WOW !!! My mind is blown. That is certainly NOT what I expected, but now I know. Actually, I kind of like the song more now.

Here is the link to the music video for the 1995 song "Mief (Nimm mich jetzt, auch wenn ich stinke)" by the German comedy musical duo Die Doofen. The title means "Stench (Take Me Now, Even If I Stink)" by the group The Stupid Ones or The Stupids.
