During my time as a journalist (1982-2017), after I moved to Florida in 1998, I was a hardware salesman at Sears; and a haberdasher (seller of men's clothes and accessories) and a textiles salesman at Macy's. For about a couple of weeks at Macy's, I sold maternity clothes and kids' toys.

From February 2016 to February 2017, I was the Associate Editor (reporter, writer, proofreader, editor, and occasional photo editor) for statistical reports and the two monthly magazines of "Shop!," an international nonprofit association that represents manufacturers of components for retail store displays, specifically lighting, shelving, flooring, showcases, graphics, mannequins, etc. I had to leave this job for medical reasons.

My dear friend and I used to bet on the standardbred horse races at a few trackswhen we were at university in the early 1980s, and also beyond. I grew up on Long Island, New York, but I never attended a standardbred race at a track in New York. However, I have attended standardbred races at tracks in six other states: Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Missouri, Illinois, and Florida.
